20/10/2020 Sevastopol: travel to the past
Almost in the very center of Sevastopol, near the coast of the Quarantine Bay, there is not just a Museum, but a real ancient city-Tauric Chersonesus. The city-state existed for almost 2000 years, but by the XV century, life here almost froze, and during the annexation of the Crimea to the Russian Empire, a new city was founded on this site - Sevastopol. Immigrants from the Greek city of Heraclea founded Chersonesos in the V century BC. and over time, it became the largest Polis on the Peninsula. Here they were engaged in agriculture, viticulture, fishing and salting fish, produced pottery and blacksmithing products. And, of course, we had fun-we watched Gladiator fights! The city-Museum has a well-preserved amphitheater from antiquity, which could accommodate about 2000 spectators to watch Gladiator fights or performances of poets. And today, tourists and residents of Sevastopol come here on summer evenings, and sitting on soft pillows lying on stone benches, watch the performances of local drama theaters.
Happy birthday, DIMEX-Sevastopol!
